excluded commodity

A term used to describe assets that cannot be traded for cash in the stock market. Interest rate futures, currency contracts, and derivatives are considered excluded commodities because they have no cash value in and of themselves. Rather, they are dependent on speculation of changes in value of actual commodities such as livestock, grains, and other goods.
