intraindustry trade

Trade in which a country exports and imports in the same industry, in contrast to interindustry trade. Ubiquitous in the data, much IIT is due to aggregation. Can be horizontal or vertical. Grubel and Lloyd (1975) wrote the book on IIT and introduced the Grubel-Lloyd index to measure it.
