social insurance

Health insurance coverage provided by a government for people that are considered disable, unemployed, or have reached an age that prevents them from working. Individuals requiring this economic assistance are unable to afford coverage on their own. The program is funded by tax contributions from employed individuals. Medicaid is a form of social insurance that some Americans may be able to qualify for.
